Trans-led Businesses

Bambai-Najariya

“Where there is a will, there is a way.” We can cheer as loud as possible for these super humans who have beaten all the odds (which they didn’t deserve) and came out with flying colors. We are talking about various trans-led places across the country. Let’s have a look at some of those:

  • Bambai Nazariya – This restaurant in Versova, Mumbai is also completely led by transgender people. The cafe reads ‘Nazariya Badlo, Nazaara Badlega.’ translating to change your vision and the world around you will change. The cafe is known to serve Pink Chai and authentic ‘Bambai’ food. They serve all the customers with a smile and homely vibe.

Location: Behind Mukesh Chhabra Casting Office, Jeet Nagar, Versova, Andheri (West), Mumbai.

  • A Leap Forward- A cup of positivi-tea is offer by this trans led business in Chennai. Set up as a part of a collaborative effort by Three Roses, India One Brand Service and Sahodaran and Thozhi, two transgender welfare associations, the shop was inaugurated by Tamil filmmaker of ‘Coffee Café’ fame Arunkumar Senthil.

“At our office in Thozhi, Chennai, we have a database of about 2,700 transgenders. We know their qualification, areas of interest, salary expectations, etc. Some of them are interested in entrepreneurship, while others ask us to find them jobs in corporate companies as per their qualifications. So, we nominate the members accordingly for each job. The five members who have put together this tea stall in Royapettah will inspire many people.”, says Sabi who is a member of the transgender assosciation.

  • The Covai Trans Kitchen – The first of its kind, a group of transgender people, opened a restaurant in the RS Puram area near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The kitchen is run by a group of 10 transgender people and can seat 32 people at once. They serve delicious Biryani. The restaurant staff have undergone training in catering service at CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science. With the help of public and local media, they have been getting bulk orders and if things go well they will open a second unit to provide more employment to the transgender community.

Have you visited any of these places? Let us know how your experience was. Also, if you know any more places like these, comment and we shall write about them as well.
